Arm Liposuction Surgery Liposuction (or liposculpture) is a cosmetic procedure primarily used to remove unwanted fat from different areas of the body. Liposuction remains one of the most popular cosmetic procedures, with over 245,000 people undergoing surgery in 2017 and over 18,000 undergoing arm lift procedures.
One of the main reasons liposuction has remained so popular is because the procedure can be performed on several areas of the body, one of the most popular areas being the arms.
What is Arm Liposuction?
Liposuction for your arms follows an almost identical process as any other typical liposuction procedure, the only difference is the area where the fat is being removed from. The aim of arm liposuction is to alter the appearance of your arm to make it look thinner and patients who are healthy and in good shape will see greater benefits post-procedure. Arm liposuction results are generally long-lasting providing you maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle.
What does Arm Liposuction Involve?
As with all liposuction procedures, your treatment will begin with a consultation with your chosen surgical consultant. During your consultation, your surgeon will highlight the areas where you are looking to have the fat removed. They will place markings on your skin to help guide the operation and give you a clear indication of where the fat will be removed from.
During your procedure, your surgeon will remove fat pockets from underneath your arm using a scalpel. This incision is made underneath your arm, usually extending from the armpit to the elbow. Your surgeon will work hard to ensure this scar is as minimally invasive as possible. Once the incision is made, the procedure then follows a typical liposuction process; using a thin, hollow tube (a cannula) that is inserted through tiny incisions in the skin. The cannula is then used to break up fat deposits to help create a more aesthetically appealing arm shape.
A vacuum is then used to remove the excess fat from your arm, and the tiny incisions made previously are sewn up during the final stages of the operation.
Note: It’s important to remember that there are several liposuction techniques available and there is no ‘one treatment for everyone’ solution. Each patient requires a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs and requirements.
How Long does Arm Liposuction Take?
Depending on the extent of the procedure, arm liposuction can take anywhere between one and three hours. This is because each patient’s treatment is unique and tailored to their individual requirements. The time of your surgery can be discussed in more detail with your surgeon.
Arm Liposuction Aftercare
Patients can expect minor swelling of the operated area post-surgery. This is entirely normal and the pain can be helped with painkillers. You will also be provided with compression garments (as with any other liposuction surgery). The compression bandages help to reduce swelling, bruising and generally aid the recovery process. Tenderness is to be expected and you may experience some numbness in the area, but both symptoms should resolve themselves within a few weeks after surgery.
Benefits of Arm Liposuction
Arm liposuction can produce exceptional results in the form of removing stubborn fat pockets under the arms. The results of arm liposuction are usually very long-lasting and this will improve immensely if you maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. You will not be able to witness your full results until around 3+ months have passed, as there may be swelling and bruising and your skin needs time to heal post-procedure. Each patient will experience a different recovery journey, you need to be patient and allow your body the time to heal throughout this process.
Remember: It’s important to understand that liposuction can’t remove cellulite or stretch marks and is not a treatment for obesity or a weight-loss alternative. If your surgeon believes you are not an appropriate candidate for arm liposuction due to these reasons, they may refuse to operate or ask for you to return when you are a healthier weight.
How Much is Arm Liposuction?
The price of arm liposuction differs from patient to patient. After your consultation, your surgeon will be able to give you a detailed price depending on your requirements. However, you can expect to pay anywhere between £1,500 to £4,500 for arm liposuction.

Never feel rushed or pressured into giving your consent. Be wary of surgeons or staff who try to convince you to go ahead. Take plenty of time to make your decision.
