The McIndoe Centre
The McIndoe Centre itself has a rich history which has established the hospital as a specialist centre and the cornerstone of the East Grinstead community. In 1997 a small group of consultant surgeons and anaesthetists came together and purchased the old McIndoe burns unit originally established as a legacy to Sir Archibald McIndoe. They had a vision to create a truly world class private hospital on the well known NHS campus, Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. After some serious building work was completed and the ward refurbished, the doors opened for business in June 1999.
The philosophy of the original Board was to establish a centre of excellence in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. Patients in need of reconstructive surgery following breast cancer, an accident or congenital deformity could be confident of receiving excellent plastic surgery care delivered by excellent surgeons in a high quality environment.
For over a decade the surgeons and support staff worked hard to achieve and maintain a world class reputation. Now, in 2015, Horder Healthcare continues to provide excellent care and services that the local and wider community have known to expect from The McIndoe Centre.
Horder Healthcare is a charity, founded in 1954, whose purpose is to advance health. In 2014, Horder Healthcare celebrated 60 proud years of making a positive difference to people’s lives.
Horder Healthcare has a long and interesting history that began when The Horder Centre in Crowborough, was founded in 1954 by Cecilia Bochenek and Dr Joyce Peake, as a charity to provide care and support to those suffering with arthritis.
Horder Healthcare has grown exponentially since then and in the recent years it has established itself as a leading provider of healthcare in the South East.
In July 2015, Horder Healthcare acquired The McIndoe Centre, then known as McIndoe Surgical Centre, with the vision to extend the reach of the charity and to advance health and patient care further to West Sussex and Surrey. Up until now Horder Healthcare has specialised in orthopaedics, however with the acquisition of The McIndoe Centre, a specialist centre in its own right, now looks to diversify enabling more people to benefit from its unique brand of care.
