The procedure will vary depending on the number of areas that require treatment and this would have been discussed with you at consultation. Different products are available to treat different areas of the face from gentle lines to deep furrows, lines around the cheek (nasolabial folds, mouth (marionette lines), the delicate eye area (tear trough) and for augmentation of the lips.
It is usual to apply a topical anaesthetic to the area(s) that are being treated before your practitioner starts the injection process. The procedure is minimally invasive and will not leave scars.
Occasionally a patient may have an allergic reaction which is why it is important to have treatment under proper medical supervision. If patients suffer from cold sores then it is possible that they may reoccur following treatment but these can be easily treated.
Patients are generally fine after the procedure and can continue about their normal daily activities although exercise is not recommended for the first 24 hours following treatment.
The effects of treatment are not permanent, Botox® may last approx. 3-4 months and dermal fillers 3-9 months although some newer products will last longer. Your practitioner will go over these options with you at consultation.
If you are interested in dermal fillers and injectables the McIndoe hosts non-surgical patient information evenings allowing patients to gain a good insight into what is available. Details can be found on the Events section of the website. If you would prefer to speak to a member of the Helpline team contact 0800 917 4922.
