John is a Consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon who considers his job to be about helping people to achieve a better quality of life by an understanding of their problems and a thoughtful application of surgical techniques, regardless of the initial underlying problem.
John was born and educated in Suffolk, spending most of his young life windsurfing, playing hockey and dismantling things that he should not have. Coming from a family with several generations of doctors it seemed only natural to follow in that career and in 1986 he started his medical training at Guy's Hospital in London.
After completing his general surgical training he was appointed to the Thames Regional Specialist Training Programme in Plastic Surgery.
He is fully trained in the UK and on the specialist register of the General Medical Council and is a member UKAAPS (UK Aesthetic Association Plastic Surgeons).
John was a full time Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the NHS before reducing his NHS commitment to spend more time treating patients in his own practice . He holds an honorary NHS contract as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at The Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.
His subspecialty interests are management and reconstruction of cancer of the skin, breast, head and neck, and perineum as well as the management of difficult soft tissue wounds. The understanding of anatomy form and function that reconstruction brings is also applicable to aesthetic surgery of all parts of the body.
John has been involved in many radio and television programmes including Sky’s Extreme Makeover and My Naked Secret and CH4’s popular Embarrassing Bodies show.
