Top 5 health and beauty tips

Party season is here once again and naturally, we all want to look our best for the festivities.

Whether it’s a Christmas do or a New Year’s party, we’ve come up with some tips and tricks to help you look and feel your best during the celebrations.

 1. Hydrate for healthy skin

Staying hydrated is a simple, healthy trick that is key to any beauty regime. Despite our best intentions, we often over-indulge come Christmas and New Year. All of this leads to our bodies, and therefore our skin, becoming dehydrated and dull. Regularly topping up on your water is a great way to combat the damage the party season does to skin, as well as the rest of the body. This is an incredibly simple step to achieve a beautiful natural glow.

Dry or dehydrated skin? We love these pointers from beauty columnist for The Guardian, Sali Hughes, on how to identify dry or dehydrated skin and her advice on the best products to treat either.

 2. Boost your immune system

With all the cold weather, late nights and a less than perfect diet, winter can take a toll on our immune systems. Believe it or not, our skin is a vital part of our immune system and acts as a barrier to keep germs and bacteria out of our bodies. For a glowing, blemish free complexion it’s essential to give your skin, and your immune system a boost of essential vitamins like Vitamin C.

3. Get your beauty sleep

Getting plenty of sleep is another simple, healthy lifestyle choice that will give your look an instant boost. Sleep is the time our bodies heal themselves; the more sleep you get, the quicker blemishes and skin issues will disappear. Getting enough sleep will also ensure those pesky dark circles stay away and will keep you in the party mood you need to get through the season.

4. Watch your diet

Burn off those extra calories before you indulge! Commit to a long, daily, brisk walk a few days leading up to Christmas Day; or spend an extra half hour at the gym, or simply watch an hour less of TV. Anything that is measurable and gets you moving more than you would normally will help you to get into a calorie deficit. You could also start the day with an energising walk on Christmas morning, which could help you feel less guilty as the day progresses!

5. Whip up a home-made healthy glow

Maximum beauty for minimum effort. This is a goal that so many of us strive to achieve. So, what if we told you that you could achieve a healthy glow in the comfort of your own home with some simple ingredients and a DIY trick or two. Believe it or not, you probably already have all the ingredients for a skin-loving face mask right in your kitchen. Here’s a recipe for our favourite:

·         Mash half a banana

·         Mix in one tablespoon of orange juice and one tablespoon of honey

·         Apply to your face and leave for 15 minutes

·         Rinse off with lukewarm water and moisturise

Once you’ve indulged your skin, it’s time to preserve that natural glow. A simple, ‘bare-faced’ makeup routine can provide you with a glowing base for a more dramatic, party look. Simply follow these easy steps from InStyle to achieve natural celebrity glamour.
