Rhinoplasty (or nose re-shaping) is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures across London. The procedure involves operating on the bones and cartilage in the nose – it has been primarily designed to aid those who are unhappy with the size, shape or form of their nose, either for medical or aesthetic reasons.
Rhinoplasty (also known as a nose job) is a procedure which helps reduce or reshape the size, structure and overall form of the nose.
Rhinoplasty surgery can vary depending on each patient’s individual requirements. For example, the shape of the nose can be changed, the bridge can be repositioned, bumps or protrusions removed and the nostril reshaped.
During the procedure, your surgeon will usually make the desired alterations by accessing your nasal shaft internals, which may require a small incision to the nostril base. This allows the bone structure and tissue to be easily manipulated in order to achieve the desired result. Once your surgery is complete, a splint will be fitted to your nose in order to maintain its new shape. Most patients will wear the splint for a week.
It is not uncommon to experience bruising and swelling around the nose and eyes post-surgery. While this may present discomfort, you will be able to take painkillers to numb the pain. Scarring will be minimal due to the surgery taking place from within the nose. Any small incision scars will also quickly fade.
As rhinoplasty surgery is mainly a cosmetic procedure, patients who opt for it benefit from improved confidence and self-esteem. Many of the patients that visit The McIndoe Centre opt for our rhinoplasty surgery because they are unhappy with the shape or general appearance of their nose.

If you’re looking for a trusted, non-surgical alternative, our recommendation would be a non-surgical rhinoplasty. The main difference is that injectable fillers would be used as opposed to physically repositioning the nose through surgery. If you would like to know more about dermal fillers and injectable, you can read here.
After surgery, you will be required to remain in the hospital overnight. Before you leave the hospital, you will be given a follow-up appointment with your consultant and referred to the dressing clinic to remove any remaining stitches. As part of the patient promise you are prescribed medication for up to two weeks post-surgery.
With regards to recovery outside of the hospital, you will be strongly advised to take at least a week off work, avoiding strenuous exercise for a few weeks and generally taking it easy. Any knocks to your face must be avoided at all costs, as this could severely hamper your healing process.
