Torn or enlarged earlobes are relatively common, resulting from trauma or the frequent wearing of heavy earrings. Earlobe surgery is the perfect solution to restore your confidence and make you feel better about yourself.
Why You Might Need Earlobe Surgery
If after a period of having ear spacers, plugs, tunnels, barbells or tapers, you would like to revert back to how it was before, then a surgical procedure would be the way forward to restore your earlobe to a more natural-looking shape.
What Does Earlobe Surgery Involve?
Torn earlobe surgery is performed under a local anaesthetic in the minor operations room in Outpatients. Your consultant plastic surgeon can repair the defect in your ear in numerous different ways.
Correcting a stretched earlobe can take between 20 to 30 minutes per ear while repairing a torn earlobe can take up to 40 minutes per ear.
Recovery After Surgery
Following earlobe surgery, minimal discomfort can easily be controlled with painkillers, while sleeping in an upright position whilst applying ice will reduce any swelling or bruising as a result of torn earlobe surgery. Stitches will be removed in five to seven days - unless they are dissolvable.
Bathing or showering is permitted, as long as care is taken not to get the dressings wet - and hairdryers should be used on a cool setting only. For 18 to 24 months after surgery, sunblock should be applied to the affected areas, as they will be prone to burning.
