Mr Ruben Yap Kannan

Ruben Yap Kannan is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. Having completed his plastic surgery training in the UK with a PhD and the FRCS(Plast) in hand, he gained the certificate of completion of training (CCT) and thereby, entry into the UK Specialist Register in Plastic Surgery in 2012. He completed advanced fellowships in aesthetic surgery and reconstructive microsurgery as well as an additional diploma in head & neck surgery. Ruben continually strives to improve his patients’ care and has undertaken further training with pioneering surgeons in Japan (super-microsurgery) and the USA (migraine surgery), thereby being one of the few who can offer these highly specialised surgeries in the UK.

Currently he performs cutting-edge surgeries at the world-renowned Queen Victoria Hospital, with numerous publications, international presentations, book chapters and awards to his name. Ruben is a dedicated teacher and helped to develop an international facial surgery fellowship in 2018. In addition, he is a recognised trainer for the UK’s Advanced Head & Neck Fellowship programme as well as being a faculty member on numerous national and international meetings.

At the The McIndoe Centre, apart from his aesthetic and facial surgical practice, Ruben also focuses on improving the lives of the elderly. These patients are commonly afflicted by cancers, diabetic ulcers and pressure sores etc. Using advanced surgical techniques, he is able to successfully treat even the most challenging of cases. Where possible, he prefers to do these as day case procedures’ under local anaesthetic, in order for his patients’ to recuperate in the comfort of their home. Most importantly however, having undergone numerous surgical procedures as a child himself, Ruben carries a deep empathy for his patients’ and is a perfectionist by nature.
