What does nipple reconstruction involve?
Nipple reconstruction can be carried out in the minor operations room in our outpatient department, under a local anaesthetic, taking between 30 and 60 minutes for both nipples. A small incision is made on the nipple to correct the shape.
After surgery, the patient may experience some discomfort which can be managed with painkillers.
Dressings will be applied to the area for one to two weeks and will be checked after a week by a consultant. Patients are able to leave the hospital on the same day and drive themselves home but are not exempt from wearing a seatbelt - despite any discomfort this may cause.
Sunblock should be applied to the treated area for 18-24 months as this will be prone to sunburn.
Treatment costs will vary according to your unique needs. The full pricing options will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.
