There are many ways to extend eyelashes, with fake eyelashes, individual extensions and growth serum featuring among popular methods. Eyelash transplants were originally developed for burn victims who had lost their natural lashes.
Over time, people have discovered the aesthetic benefits of eyelash surgery, which is offered as a cosmetic enhancement.
Why you might need an eyelash transplant
Patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their eyelashes, or are looking to replace eyelashes that have fallen out as the result of injury may consider an eyelash transplant. Also, anyone that has undergone treatment for cancer (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc…) may also find this procedure appealing.
What are the benefits of an eyebrow transplant?
Patients may opt for an eyelash transplant to address confidence issues or to replace eyelashes that have been removed as the result of injury or treatment.
Some of the benefits include:
What does an eyelash transplant involve?
Individual hairs from the back of the neck are used and primed to put in the base of the eyelid, where, just like any other hair, they will continue to grow. Depending on the individual, around 30 to 50 hairs are transplanted.
Each hair is positioned at a slight angle just like real eyelashes in order to make them seem as real as possible. Generally, most of the hairs survive the transplant, although there may be a few that don’t and will subsequently fall out. A local anaesthetic will be used so you will be awake during the procedure.
Eyelash transplants, although permanent, will keep growing the same as normal hair and will have to be trimmed regularly. Curling the eyelashes regularly to give them a natural shape and thickening them with mascara will help achieve a healthy, natural look.
After the eyelash transplant is complete, you’ll be ready to go home almost immediately. You will most likely experience discomfort around the eyes as a result of the procedure, but the effect will be immediate.
