Orthodontics is a field of dentistry and, at The McIndoe Centre, we have a specialist, established team who are committed to providing excellent care and delivering outstanding results – helping you look good, feel great and smile more.

Why you might need orthodontics

You may require orthodontics if you have any teeth that require straightening and repositioning – this can be because they are crowded, spaced or crooked.

What are the benefits of orthodontics?

Patients who undergo orthodontic treatment do so to straighten and/or move their teeth to improve appearance and functionality.

Some of the benefits include:

  • Improved appearance
  • Better functionality – making eating easier
  • Helps the long-term support of the jaw by evenly spreading pressure when biting

What does orthodontic treatment involve?

In the field of dentistry, there are a variety of different orthodontic treatments available, dependent on the patient’s specific issue. A consultant will carry out an examination by looking at your teeth, possibly performing an X-ray and making plaster models of your teeth.

To manipulate the positioning of your teeth, a brace will be fitted into the jaw for a period of time – although this is more common for children, more and more adults are also now opting for this treatment. Private treatment allows for consultations with an orthodontist to be held outside of school and work hours to minimise disruption.

A consultant will be best placed to discuss the treatment most appropriate for you and your specific requirements.

Recovery time

Recovery time is entirely dependent on the severity of the problem and the type of treatment the patient undergoes. Minor treatments can take a few months to carry out, while more severe problems can take up to two years to fully correct.

Treatment Cost

Treatment costs will vary according to your unique needs. The full pricing options will be discussed with you during your initial consultation.
