Liposuction London

Liposuction for London based Patients

It’s not uncommon for patients to struggle to lose fat even when following a healthy lifestyle. In cases like this, many people turn to liposuction to help remove stubborn fat areas that cannot be removed using regular diet and exercise. This cosmetic procedure can help rebuild self-esteem and offers exceptional results thanks to the experience of our specialist consultants.

What is Liposuction Surgery?

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for those looking to remove stubborn fat from specific areas of their body, leaving a more defined shape. Liposuction is also referred to as liposculpture or suction-assisted lipectomy.

What Areas Does Liposuction Target?

Many people find that despite constant exercise and maintaining a healthy diet, they are still struggling to eliminate stubborn fat pockets from certain areas of their body. Trouble areas include:

  • Stomach
  • Thighs
  • Hips
  • ‘Love handles’
  • Underarms
  • Buttocks
  • And more

Liposuction can help reshape certain areas of your body if you are still struggling to remove fat from these areas. There are other liposuction techniques such as non-surgical and laser liposuction in London that claim to achieve good results. However, it’s important to do your research on such techniques and ask for before and after photos.

Preparing questions before the consultation is also a good idea, as this will give you a better understanding of the procedure and the chance to air any questions that have not been covered.

How Does Liposuction work?

The procedure involves removing fat through a cannula (a small device used to remove fat) which is inserted under the skin. This is typically a very fast and effective process and results are usually immediately apparent (until swelling and bruising begins).

This is followed by attaching a high-pressure vacuum to the cannula, which removes the targeted fat area.

The Liposuction Process

Before your surgery begins, you will be invited to have a consultation with one of our renowned liposuction specialists. Once you have understood the process, aftercare and expectations, a date for your surgery will be set.

Before surgery, your consultant will place markings on your skin to guide the operation. Depending on the area(s) you want to be treated, you will may be placed on general anaesthetic. Again, this will all be discussed in detail with your chosen liposuction specialist beforehand.

Common Causes for Liposuction Surgery

Although you may eat and exercise in the right ways, you may find that stubborn fat pockets refuse to go away. While every patient who opts for the liposuction route may have their own personal reasons for doing so, there are a few common reasons why many undergo the procedure:

  • Regain confidence
  • To target stubborn fat areas
  • Reduce fat production
  • To begin a healthier lifestyle

The most common reason patients opt for our liposuction procedures is to regain their confidence. Being overweight or obese is known to have severe effects on one’s mental and personal wellbeing and liposuction presents a welcoming solution to such issues. However, it is important to remember that liposuction should never be viewed as an alternative to weight loss.

Recovery After Your Liposuction Procedure

After your liposuction procedure, you will be given a support corset or compression bandages to help reduce swelling, bruising and generally aid your recovery time. You will also be given a recovery plan so that you’re never without guidance. Your specialist will prescribe you with medication for up to two weeks. You will have to arrange for someone to pick you up and any strenuous activity should be avoided for two to three weeks in order for your scars to heal quickly.

Generally speaking, the recovery process for liposuction is fairly quick, with most people able to return to work within two weeks. It is also important to remember that the results of liposuction are not immediately apparent because of the swelling. Once your swelling has reduced (this can take up to six months) you should be able to see your results in full.

Liposuctions FAQs

Is There Any Scarring With Liposuction?

Patients will be pleased to know that although liposuction does leave scars, they are merely a few millimetres in length and are made in discrete locations of your body.

Our surgical consultants understand that scarring is a source of concern for many patients. If you would like to minimise the appearance of your scars, creams and oils can be applied. Your surgeon will advise you on the best course of scar remedies.

Will I Need to Stay Overnight Post-Procedure?

It’s unlikely that you will be required to stay overnight after your procedure. We aim to allow patients to recover in the comfort of their own homes on the day of surgery. There are some cases where you may be required to stay overnight but this will be discussed with your consultant during your consultation.

Alternatives to Liposuction Surgery

Some of the most obvious knee-jerk reactions many people always refer to is ‘exercise more’ or ‘eat healthily.’ Of course, while eating well and exercising will help you lose weight, it may not be able to eliminate the leftover fat. This is where liposuction becomes a viable solution.

Tummy tuck and abdominoplasty may be combined to enhance your liposuction results. Some patients who lose weight at a sudden rate (or even pregnancy) may be left with skin that has lost elasticity. Both abdominoplasty and tummy tuck procedures focus on removing excess stomach fat and skin to offer the patient a more contoured and aesthetically pleasing result.

We offer both tummy tuck and abdominoplasty procedures to patients at The McIndoe Centre.

What is VASER Liposuction?

VASER liposuction is known to a less invasive type of liposuction procedure. It looks at targeting and breaking down small pockets of fat which are then removed a cannula (similar to traditional liposuction) without affecting any surrounding tissue.

VASER liposuction is not something we use at The McIndoe Centre as it is not typically suitable for larger patients. The ideal candidate for liposuction is someone who is generally healthy but cannot seem to shift stubborn fat pockets around certain areas.

How Much Does Liposuction in Cost in London?
