Why Choose A Private Bowel Cancer Screening At The McIndoe Centre?

An at-home Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) Test is a test that looks for blood in a sample of your stool. It detects microscopic amounts of blood that aren't visible to the eye, which can be an early marker of colorectal cancer, bowel cancer or colon cancer, as well as other conditions.

Our FIT test makes it easier than ever to screen discreetly, quickly, and accurately.

Understanding Your Risk

Most people are at low risk of bowel (colon) cancer, but some factors can increase your chances of developing it. These include age, a family history of bowel or colon cancer (especially in a parent or sibling), a history of certain bowel conditions such as Lynch syndrome or familial polyposis, or lifestyle factors such as a low-fibre diet, smoking, or heavy drinking.

If you’re concerned about your risk, regular bowel screening can help detect hidden signs before symptoms develop. If you are already experiencing symptoms, you are advised to seek a review with a doctor in the first instance.

Is This Test Right for Me?

  • You’re aged 40+ and want extra peace of mind about your bowel health

  • You’re not yet eligible for NHS bowel screening, or you’d like a check between routine NHS tests

What to expect from a FIT Test?

You’ll receive a home Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) kit with everything you need to collect a small stool sample in the privacy of your own home. Clear, step-by-step instructions are included to make the process simple and stress-free.

Once you've collected your sample, you’ll place it in the secure, pre-paid return envelope and send it to our accredited UK lab for analysis.

Your results are carefully reviewed by a registered Women's Health Specialist GP. If anything unusual is detected, a follow-up phone consultation will be arranged to discuss the findings and next steps.

If further investigation is recommended, the GP can provide a referral to the appropriate service.

All of this is included for just £79 — with no need for a GP referral or clinic visit. It's a fast, private and proactive way to take charge of your health.

Understanding Your Results

FIT Positive

If your test detects traces of blood in your stool, this is known as a positive FIT result.

It’s important to remember that this does not mean you have cancer. Blood in the stool can be caused by a number of conditions.

In most cases, our doctor will refer you for a follow-up test, usually a colonoscopy, which examines the inside of your bowel (colon) to identify the cause and take further action if needed.

FIT Negative

A negative FIT result means no blood was detected in your stool at the time of testing.

For most people, this is a reassuring result. However, if your symptoms persist, change, or worsen, it’s essential to follow up with your GP. Further testing may be needed to rule out other causes or detect changes over time.

Also known as a colon cancer screening test or a bowel cancer screening test, the FIT test is a trusted, guideline-approved way to check for early signs of colorectal cancer at home.
