Adrian Perry | ACL Reconstruction
Keen rugby player and fitness enthusiast Adrian Perry is hoping that he will soon be back doing intensive exercise following a knee operation at The McIndoe Centre.
Adrian, 35, has been unable to take part in any competitive sport since injuring his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) while playing rugby in September last year but just days after surgery he feels the journey back to a full fitness regime has already begun.
He said: “It was a very good feeling to walk unaided on the ward after quite an invasive treatment – I certainly didn’t have that experience when I had my last ACL reconstruction on my other knee 12 years’ ago. I’m clear on what I need to do over the next days, weeks and months to get back to full functionality.
“The mobility and ability to weight bear is key to recovery and consultant Sam Rajaratnam has done a truly amazing job to get me to where I am, far exceeding all my expectations.”
Adrian, who plays for St Francis RFC in Crawley and works as an accountant within the NHS, was a day case at The McIndoe Centre and praised all the staff for making him feel at ease during the experience.
He said: “Everything felt really personal and tailored, not once did I feel I was just part of a process. You could tell that the staff loved the work they were doing and that they all had time for me. The hospital was clean and peaceful, even with some building work that was going on.
“The right size hospital and the right culture to make the care feel personal. It was as good an experience as one could wish for whilst having an operation.”
