Mandy King | Breast Augmentation

Patient Story: Mandy King

“It’s nice not to use padded bras

For years, Mandy King had thought about breast enlargement surgery but never took the plunge. That all changed when a colleague’s daughter recommended Mr Oliver Harley, Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at The McIndoe Centre, following breast enlargement surgery with him.

“I’d always wanted bigger breasts, but never took the step towards surgery,” Mandy, 54, explained. “I knew I wouldn’t go abroad, but didn’t know where to go until this recommendation for Mr Harley.

“From the very first consultation, I felt reassured. Although I was a little nervous beforehand, especially about my age, Mr Harley quickly put me at ease. He explained everything clearly, answered every question, and helped me choose the right option for my body and goals.

“I chose the teardrop–shaped implants to achieve a natural result and opted to go two cup sizes bigger, moving from an A/B cup. My main aim was to restore volume to the upper part of my breasts, as the top half was flat.

Breast Augmentation at The McIndoe Centre

Perhaps you’ve always wanted a fuller cup-size or perhaps you want to rejuvenate your post-pregnancy body. Our specialist consultants guarantee the highest standard of surgical care and results that can last a lifetime. For many patients, breast enlargement procedures have restored their confidence and offered a new lease of life.

“On the day of surgery, I wasn’t nervous at all. If I’m asleep, it doesn’t bother me. I was more excited than anything.”

Mandy’s surgery was first thing in the morning, and she was able to return home the same day, feeling a little sore but mobile and comfortable. A bandage for the first day, followed by a special supportive surgical bra for two weeks, was required during recovery.

A few days later, when she noticed what she thought was swelling, she phoned The McIndoe Centre. Although Mr Harley wasn’t available, another surgeon stepped in immediately to check over the area and confirm there were no issues.

Mandy added: “I was paranoid and overthinking, so it was really lovely someone could see me at short notice. I went home happy and reassured.

“Everyone at The McIndoe Centre was helpful, and whenever I had a question, they always addressed it with care and attention.

“I’m so happy with my decision. They look fantastic; you wouldn’t know I’d had it done. I just wish I’d done it when I was younger.

The scar is hidden, faint, and will fade further. I wasn’t worried about that at all.”

“I still wear the same clothes, but now it’s nice not to use stick-on padded bras or inserts in my bra.”

Before & after

Before & After_ mandy king

“It is always heartwarming to hear that this operation can make such a difference to people's lives and overall well-being. I am so delighted for Mandy. Her story also highlights an important issue for people hoping to have plastic surgery, and that is the availability of after-care.  Patients may well have concerns after surgery, and just occasionally these concerns turn out to be genuine problems as well. Being able to easily return to the hospital or clinic where you had your surgery is so important, and in some cases, this can even make the difference between success and failure of surgery.  You should think very carefully about this if you are considering treatment overseas or even in a different part of the UK from your home.”
