Liposuction Surgery for Men

Otherwise known as liposculpture, liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed throughout Europe. Last year, liposuction was ranked one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the UK, with over 2,300 people electing to have the surgery, 270 being men.

While liposuction is commonly associated with women, the procedure can also be performed on men. Almost every liposuction procedure follows the same routine, however, there is one difference when treating men. The primary difference regarding liposuction for men is the targeted areas. For example, common target areas for women include the hips and thighs. Men, on the other hand, may choose to focus specifically on the stomach.

Each liposuction treatment aims to improve your physical appearance by removing stubborn fat pockets from areas where it’s notoriously difficult to shift fat. This can be done using several different liposuction techniques, but selecting the appropriate treatment course is a decision to be made between you and your surgical consultant.

Liposuction for men is not an alternative to weight loss, nor should it be seen as a cure for obesity. Post-surgery, your surgeon will advise you to adhere to a healthy diet and lifestyle to ensure you get the most out of your liposuction procedure.

What does Liposuction for Men Involve?

All surgical treatments at The McIndoe Centre begin by arranging a consultation with your chosen consultant. During your consultation, your surgical consultant will explain the procedure and your treatment journey. You will be free to ask any questions surrounding your liposuction surgery and we encourage all patients to ask as many questions as they can.

Your consultant will then mark out sections of the area to help guide the surgery, give you an indication of the areas where the surgery will take place, and roughly how you can expect to look after surgery.

During surgery, your consultant will begin by making incisions in the targeted areas in order to insert the cannula. The cannula is then used to help break up fat deposits within these targeted areas and a vacuum is used to remove the fat. Your incisions are then sewn up and left to heal.

Note: Each patient will experience a different liposuction treatment depending on their individual requirements. No liposuction treatment is the same and no single technique works for all patients.
