Chin Liposuction

Chin Liposuction (Double Chin Surgery)

Cosmetic Surgery | Face & Eyes Surgery

Chin liposuction, also known as double chin surgery, is a simple surgical procedure used to remove excess fat from below the jaw, as well as in the cheeks and jowls. This common cosmetic procedure continues to be a popular treatment in the UK, as it offers many benefits and exceptional results that can be life-changing.

If you have a stubborn double chin that you struggle to get rid of, chin liposuction is a procedure that can help. The surgical procedure aims to target excess fat around the skin that may be minimising the definition in your jawline, providing patients with a more youthful and rejuvenating look.

How Does Chin Liposuction Work?

A thin cannula is inserted into different areas of the treatment area and moved back and forth.

This motion helps break down the fat, and the loosened fat cells are then sucked out of the body. Although it may sound daunting, the cannula is very thin. Therefore, only small incisions are made in the treatment area.

Depending on the complexity of the treatment, the surgery can take anywhere from 45 minutes up to two hours.

Is Chin Liposuction Permanent?

The effects of chin liposuction are permanent. However, if a patient gains a significant amount of weight, the excess fat can target the treatment area. Therefore, to maintain the results of the procedure, patients must maintain a consistent weight. This will be discussed during your consultation.

Am I a Good Candidate for Chin Liposuction?

There are some qualities that make a client the ideal candidate for chin liposuction. Ideally, you will have good overall health. If you have excess fat on your jawline or neck, causing a double chin, you will be able to achieve incredible results with the treatment. Clients whose skin has good elasticity will also achieve better results rather than those who don't.

Please note that chin liposuction is a cosmetic procedure. Therefore, it is not available on the NHS. Luckily, the treatment is available from reputable clinics like The McIndoe Centre. Our specialists determine whether you are a good candidate for the treatment during your initial consultation. Not only does it allow our consultants to better understand your cosmetic goals, but it is also a brilliant opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

Chin Liposuction Before and After

Chin liposuction offers incredible results. Patients will enjoy a new look as their face and jawline become more defined. Before the treatment, the chin will appear larger. Some may have a lot of sagging skin which creates a double chin. After the treatment, the skin will become tighter, the appearance of a double chin will be minimised, and the results can give clients a youthful-looking appearance.

After your surgery, you may experience some bruising and swelling. The skin may also feel tight, but these symptoms are normal so try not to worry. Recovery can take up to one week, and you should be able to return to work after your recovery time is over. There are a few aftercare dos and don'ts that you should be aware of to aid your recovery. Familiarise yourself with the list below:

  • Do use a cold compress to ease swelling of the treatment area
  • Don’t bend over or lift heavy items for the first few days after treatment
  • Do sleep with your head elevated

Following these steps above will help aid your recovery so you can achieve exceptional results and return to your daily life as soon as possible. Aftercare will be discussed during your consultation.
