Mr Ruben Yap Kannan

Ruben Kannan is a world-renowned Consultant Plastic Surgeon based in East Grinstead with a special interest in facial restoration and supermicrosurgery. He completed his training in plastic surgery in the UK, with a PhD in nanotechnology from University College London, in addition to the FRCS(Plast). Ruben gained entry onto the Specialist Register in Plastic Surgery in 2012 and has been an NHS consultant for over a decade now. He has also completed numerous fellowships in facial reanimation (UK), reconstructive microsurgery (UK), aesthetic surgery (Training Interface Group-UK), migraine surgery (USA) and supermicrosurgery (Japan). Ruben has also completed additional diplomas in Head & Neck surgery and legal medicine in 2017 and 2021 respectively. All of this has allowed him to offer his patients, state of the art procedures of the highest quality at reasonable prices. He remains one of the few surgeons in the UK, offering niche procedures such as the selective neurolysis procedure for synkinesis management in both the NHS and the private sector.

With the right mix of expertise, wisdom and innovation, Ruben Kannan has also made significant contributions to plastic surgery by describing advanced techniques such as the ‘Snail’, ‘labiomandibular’ and ‘SCoNe’ flaps: all highly refined surgical procedures. These are the first descriptions of this kind in the world. Along with this, he is also creating paradigm shifts in facial palsy management worldwide with the MEPI or motor end-plate concept, the M-point technique, ultrasound-guided Botulinum toxin injections and platysmal myoneurectomy, so far. Using clarity of thought, Ruben is redefining concepts worldwide and has received several awards in this regard so far.

At  The McIndoe Centre, Ruben Kannan focuses on the complex management of facial palsy, synkinesis, and migraine, as well as aesthetic procedures, including a wide array of face and neck lifts. Most importantly however, having undergone numerous surgical procedures as a child himself, Ruben carries a deep empathy for his patients and continually strives to improve on his results.
