Thigh Liposuction Surgery

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries, with almost 250,000 people undertaking the surgery last year. A reported 9,648 thigh surgeries were performed in 2017, an 82% increase since 2000.

Liposuction is an appealing cosmetic surgery for many because it’s able to treat several areas of the body, one of the most popular being the thighs.

What is Thigh Liposuction?

Thigh liposuction follows a similar fat removal process to any other liposuction procedure. The only difference with thigh liposuction is that it focuses on removing fat from the thigh as opposed to more common areas such as the stomach. As with any cosmetic procedure, the aim for thigh liposuction is to enhance the appearance of your thighs by making them thinner. Patients who are in good physical shape and follow a healthy lifestyle will see greater benefits post-procedure.

The results for thigh liposuction are long-lasting providing you follow a healthy lifestyle.

What does Thigh Liposuction Involve?

As with any liposuction procedure, your treatment begins with arranging to meet your chosen surgeon for a one-on-one consultation. This is a very important part of your treatment because you will be able to ask any questions surrounding your treatment. Your surgeon will also highlight and mark areas where fat will be removed from to give you a clearer indication of what your thighs will look like post-procedure.

Your surgeon begins the procedure by removing fat pockets from underneath your thigh using a hollow tube known as a cannula. The cannula is inserted into your thigh and is used to break up fat deposits. It is attached to a vacuum that sucks out and collects the fat deposits in small amounts. In some cases, ultrasound microwaves or a laser may be used to help break up stubborn fat cells before they’re removed via the vacuum. Once the fat deposits have been removed, the skin surrounding your thigh should shrink to match your thigh’s new contour.

Note: It’s important to remember that there are several liposuction techniques available and there is no ‘one treatment for everyone’ solution. Each patient requires a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs and requirements.

How Long does Thigh Liposuction Take?

The time you will spend in the operating room varies depending on the extent of your surgery. You can expect your surgery to take anywhere between one and three hours, but this will be discussed in more detail during your consultation.

How Much is Thigh Liposuction?

The price of your thigh liposuction will be discussed during your consultation. As with all types of cosmetic surgery, the price will differ depending on each patient's individual needs and requirements. However, you can expect to pay anywhere between £2,000 to £4,000 for thigh liposuction.

Choosing your Surgeon

Choosing your surgeon is one of the most important parts of your surgical process. All liposuction procedures are very personal, so it’s important that you feel comfortable with your decision and your chosen surgeon.

As thigh liposuction is elective surgery, it is unlikely that it will be covered by your insurance. However, The McIndoe Centre are able to help with financing your thigh liposuction treatment.

All consultants at The McIndoe Centre are fully accredited and are on the specialist register of the General Medical Council. A number of our consultants who specialise in plastic, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery are also members of leading professional bodies such as BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgeons) or BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons).

Thigh Liposuction Aftercare

Post-surgery, patients may experience swelling and minor bruising in the thigh area. This is entirely normal and should subside completely after a few weeks. You will have to wear compression bandages following your treatment. These bandages are specifically designed to provide firm compression to encourage comfort and speed up your recovery process. Your surgeon will hand you a bespoke recovery plan after your procedure. We advise all patients to ask questions, as the aftercare process is an important part of your liposuction treatment.

What are the Benefits of Thigh Liposuction?

Thigh liposuction removes stubborn fat pockets from your thighs, resulting in a thinner, healthier thigh appearance. Your results from thigh liposuction are usually long-lasting, providing you follow the aftercare advice given by your surgeon and you maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle.

Your results will be immediately apparent after surgery, but swelling and bruising will then occur. Throughout this healing period, you will not be able to appreciate the final results of your surgery. While every patient will experience different recovery journeys, most can expect to see final results after 3+ months.

Remember: It’s important to understand that liposuction can’t remove cellulite or stretch-marks and is not a treatment for obesity or a weight-loss alternative. If your surgeon believes you are not an appropriate candidate for thigh liposuction because of these reasons, they may refuse to operate or ask for you to return when you are a healthier weight.
